I had made one sock from the booklet "Learn to Knit Socks" by Edie Eckman out of a perwinkle color in Woolease yarn. For some reason, I never did the 2nd sock and then I forgot where I had found the pattern. I found another pattern for the same sock (I thought) somewhere on the internet and tried 3 times to get it to match the other sock. No go. I tore out the first sock but then decided not to start over with the same yarn because the yarn and I had issues (too soft and yet some scratchy inconsistencies, weird blobs of pure purple in the color and knots).
Then I made the Blueberry Waffle socks instead. After that I figured I really needed to do the next pair of socks with a higher wool content. I rummaged around in my stash and found 2 skeins of Country Cobbler by Brown Sheep Company, Inc. I had purchased this yarn cheap (only $2.75 per 132 yd skein!) in the clearance loft at Depth of Field in St. Paul, MN. I don't see it listed on the website for Brown Sheep because I think they discountinued the yarn. It's a shame, because it is really nice DK weight, 90% wool 10% nylon. It did tend to split and because of the pattern pattern I had to be extra careful.
Okay, so the pattern is "Peri-Twinkle Toes" from the book. Of course, I found the book in my knitting books stash AFTER I had given up on the other pattern and yarn. This is my first set of socks where I grafted the toe. It took 3 tries but I think it looks pretty good now. These socks are for my friend Linda, who is the founding member of The Bead Ladies; a group that meets every Wednesday at a local coffeehouse to bead (or knit). She kept saying how much she liked the color, and "I would love a pair of socks like that" so I figured I better gift them to her. Besides, we are going to celebrate her birthday next week, so the timing is perfect!
Of course, e-mail me if you have any questions.
